The Frederic M. Shulman Scholarship
The Frederic M. Shulman Scholarship was endowed in 2024 by Price Meese Shulman & D’Arminio to honor Rick Shulman, a founding partner of the firm, who passed away in October 2023.
2026 BERGEN COUNTY BAR FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
The Board of Trustees of the Bergen County Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s annual scholarships. The Board selected recipients based on academic merit, financial need, and a record of community service. The Foundation received an outstanding number of applications from highly qualified law students.
April Lazo is a J.D. candidate who recently completed her first year at Pace University’s Elisabeth Haub School of Law, where she ranked in the top 18% of her class. She is a Dean’s List recipient, a semifinalist in the Louis V. Fasulo 1L Moot Court Competition, and a member of the Pace Environmental Law Review.
This summer, April served as a Judicial Intern with the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Second Department, where she conducted legal research and assisted with appellate matters and judicial opinions. This fall, she will continue her legal education at St. John’s University School of Law as a transfer student, where she plans to explore her interests in employment law, advocacy, and other areas of the legal profession.
Sofia Milevski is a third-year law student at Quinnipiac University School of Law and a lifelong Bergen County resident, having been born and raised in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. At Quinnipiac, she has held leadership roles in the Student Bar Association and Business Law Society and will return to Bergen County after graduation to begin her legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable James X. Sattely. Receiving this scholarship will not only support her continued legal education but also reinforce her commitment to building a career in New Jersey dedicated to serving the communities that shaped her.
Javier E. Reyes is a lifelong Bergen County resident and rising second-year student at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, where he is pursuing public interest law. His commitment to serving vulnerable communities has included work with the Bergen County Community Mental Health Law Project and, most recently, Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) in Newark, where he supported legal advocacy for unaccompanied immigrant children.
Javier graduated cum laude from Rutgers University-Newark with a B.A. in Political Science and minors in Legal Studies and Criminal Justice. After graduating from law school, he hopes to give back to the community that raised him by building a career in public interest advocacy serving Bergen County and the greater New York metropolitan area.
Endy Abreu is a third-year law student at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, where she serves as Vice President of the Latin American Law Students Association (LALSA) and as a 3L Representative for the Pace Immigration Law Society. Before law school, she gained seven years of paralegal experience across several areas of law, including immigration, real estate, and consumer matters.
Throughout law school, Endy has continued developing her advocacy skills through clinical work, public interest internships, and moot court, including competing as an oralist in an international Spanish-language competition in Peru. As a first-generation law student, she is passionate about mentorship, community involvement, and exploring different areas of practice as she prepares to begin her legal career.
